Xel-Há means ‘where the water is born’
Pre-plan your adventure and save money by clicking here and pre-purchasing your tickets!!
The story is that the Mayan Gods gave Xel-Ha to mortals. Guarded by the symbols for Parrot Fish and Iguana representing wisdom, illusion and love are the historical elements representing the Park’s natural beauty and its role as a cultural and religious center.
In pre-Hispanic Mexico, Xel-Há grew to become a port and commercial zone for the privileged and safe harbor for seagoing merchants.
Welcome to Xel-Há. We invite you to explore all of the possibilities of our natural paradise. Relax and enjoy in an atmosphere of adventure with all the amenities of comfort, safety and convenience. Learn, rest and participate in the world’s most beautiful natural aquarium, Xel-Há.
We're located in the heart of the Riviera Maya in Mexico’s state of Quintana Roo, on kilometer 240 of the Carretera Chetumal. That’s 122 kilometers/76 miles south of Cancun.
Snorkel Submerge in the amazingly blue, warm and crystalline waters of the Xel-Há inlet with your snorkel equipment and you will have an unforgettable encounter with colorful fishes and exuberant flora.
The practice of snorkel is one of the favorite activities of our visitors. The park has four stands to rent snorkel equipment were you can get, Full equipment rental, Masks rental, Flippers and Wet Suits.
It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner of an expert, you can enjoy the reef, where the beauty of the flora and fauna will amaze you. It’s not even necessary to know how to swim, because for this activity we can provide you with life jackets and snorkel equipment. Is an activity recommended for kids older than 8 years.
Xel-Há offers the Aquatic Institute Xel-Há (IAX) where you can find optional activities as: Aquadventure, Snorkel Tour, Reef, Snuba and Sea Trek.
Aquaventura Our guides lead participants on an adventure to the best sites in the Park. For novices and experienced snorkelers alike, this multi-level experience in the marine ecosystem is an eye-opener.
Sea Trek Step into a world of fish — the biggest and most splendid in the Park. This new take on helmet diving is safe and enjoyable – and you won’t even get your hair wet. For non-swimmers, this walk through the underwater gardens of Xel-Há opens a new world of exploration. Snuba Snuba is a combination of snorkeling and scuba – and it lets non-divers descend safely into the reef zone without breath-hold diving. A compressed air tank floats on the surface, the snuba diver breathes through a safe and easy to use regulator below the surface. Following a brief class from our professional guides, the snuba experience opens a world of undersea adventure to the novice or non-diver. Dolphinarium Experience our Interactive Dolphin Swim. A part of our educational program, the Dolphinarium and it’s six resident dolphins is an opportunity to touch, see, hear and feel another world. It is truly a unique experience. The facilities have been designed to protect the health and safety of the aquatic and human participants while allowing both parties to share an unforgettable experience.
Cenotes The bridge that spans the Xel-Ha river connects to jungle paths, caves and rocky tropical outcroppings. Following the paths leads to two cenotes or sinkholes; Paradise and Adventure. There are three types of water-filled cenotes. Xel-Ha has one; the ‘wet cenote’ fed by underground streams and rivers and a steady vertical current. This rich, varied environment provides for a diversity of plants, including orchids, palms and fruit bearing plants, like the chicozapote, or chicle ‘rubber’ tree.
River The Xel-Ha River Float is an adventure that you don’t want to miss. Fed by a labyrinth of tiny, underground fresh-water springs, the River flows gently to the sea, home for a myriad of colorful fish and a living museum of fossilized corals.
Mayan Cave The Mayan world was upside down. Heaven was below ground in an ‘infraworld’ of caves, guarded by fantastic beasts and gods. These ideas of an underground world was made easier to believe by the presence of thermoclines in the water just below the surface of the waterfilled caves. The caves, filled with naturally occurring limestone deposits and rock made carving easy so many of the caves in the Mayan world are decorated.
Mangrove Chaac Mangroves are the only trees in the world that live in salt water. They serve as refuge and nursery for a large portion of marine and terrestrial life. Natural biological filters, mangroves provide barriers between land and the delicate wetland lagoon habitat. Humans appreciate them as well; their strong roots and trunks make them ideal.
